FLOATING ISLAND
Made together with Christina Rieder as part of Web Platform for Interaction Designer workshop / Dec 2018
Using HTML, CSS, JavaScript (JQuery)

Since the industrial revolution, factories and machines create gases and carbon in the atmosphere, population is growing making the green areas decrease and the arctic ice is melting.
In our project “Floating Island” we want to address the problem of how city-elements (like building, cars, roads) and less green areas, affect air pollution and ice melting. We explored the connection between everyday objects and amenities we have in our lives and how the affects ice melting.
The island is a metaphor for our planet. The user can create it how they see it by adding elements which create pollution, while the ice is melting and their island is in danger of floating away resulting in the game being over.

Our interface is a platform to create a virtual island. The user can add or remove elements from the island by clicking on them. While doing so, they can see the percentage of pollution rise and fall with their selection, as well as the percentage of nature on their island . The ice on the bottom of the island melts more when the user adds some elements (like car, road, building, ship) to his island. The user needs to watch out that they do not melt the ice, which will cause to the island floating away and will result in GAME OVER.
There is an option in this platform to share and see other users’ optimal islands with both city elements and with keeping nature areas and ice.
